Goals
Part 1 (Lorella Pignet-Fall):
Interculturally effective persons have an understanding of the concept of culture and the influence it will have on their life and work abroad. Working across cultures creates many challenges for today’s international professional
This module will help students to understand what we mean by culture and cross cultural management. Communicating effectively in this changing world requires new managerial and multi-cultural skills.
Part 2 (Thierry Savatier):
International business requires a serious knowledge of cross-cultural relationships and management in order to work effectively and in harmony with foreign partners. This module will provide the students with examples coming from professional experience concerning crosscultural management, with a focus put on 2 specific cultures: China and Finland.

- notions on “values”, “behaviors , rules and standards”, “identity” , “group and communication”
- cultural diversity and management , stereotypes and prejudices
- how best to handle international projects and coordinate multicultural teams
- decoding and explaining cultural differences in management
- keywords for international communication
Part 2 (Thierry Savatier):
The content includes an approach of key concepts:
- Cross-cultural experience
- Cross-culturel management styles
- How to motivate people from another culture
- Decision-making process depending on cultures
- Culture and organisation (including company culture)
- Cross-cultural teamworking, recruiting policy, product adaptation
- Approach of Chinese and Finnish cultures (business etiquette, management style, negotiation, business meetings, socialisation)
