Objectifs
This course aims to understand qualitative research approaches, and to explore both their interests and the diversity of possible qualitative methods. It addresses the issues of collecting and analyzing qualitative data. It should help you ask yourself the right questions... in terms of collecting the material and its processing.
► Our goal: to enhance your capacity to conceptualize, design and conduct qualitative research in IB & management field
This course will discuss the following questions:
Qualitative research is a broad approach, and the module will address different methodologies, different types of qualitative research, different aspects of empirical work, issues regarding collecting and analyzing empirical materials, questions about theorizing and issues relating to ethics.

- What kind of knowledge can qualitative research produce?
- What is the role of theory in conducting qualitative research?
- How do researchers use methods such as interviews, document analysis, …?

Target skills:
- Link between theory and practice: mobilizing theoretical frameworks of analysis in practical situations through the deployment of an appropriate qualitative methodology
- Master qualitative methodological tools and their epistemological foundations: be able to implement qualitative approaches and analyze the results.
- Acquire skills in collecting and analyzing qualitative data and in writing dissertations or scientific articles.
- Develop an analytical mind and take a step back on the advantages and conditions for deploying these methodologies.
- Acquire skills in restitution of your research and the strength of conviction of your research

TEACHING METHODS
This course will explore its issues with the help of pre-readings, lectures, group work, presentations and discussions. This course is designed as a seminar, which requires preparation by students before each session and dynamic interaction in the classroom: students are encouraged to debate their particular views, methodological problems, and research issues in class.
Regarding in-class participation, students are expected to show up for all seminar sessions and participate actively throughout, including challenge existing assumptions/theories/methods and present their own thoughts and work in class.
