From Individual Performance to Societal Commitment

Through their experiences - on land and at sea - Isabelle Autissier and Marie-Amélie Le Fur will share their perspectives on high-level performance, resilience in the face of failure, and the power of determination.
They will reflect on their unique journeys, their respective disciplines, and offer valuable insight into their societal commitments far beyond the world of sport.

Program

2:30 p.m. - Opening Remarks by Marie-Christine Chalus, Dean of iaelyon and President of the IAE FRANCE network and Valérie Revest, Full Professor at iaelyon and event coordinator

2:40 p.m. - Isabelle Autissier, Sailor, Author, Environmental Activist, Honorary President of WWF France (World Wildlife Fund ou Fonds mondial pour la nature)

A French sailor, Isabelle Autissier became the first woman to complete a solo round-the-world yacht race in 1991.

She earned her degree in agricultural engineering in 1980, specializing in fisheries and aquatic living resources. In 1990, she joined Ifremer (the French Research Institute for Exploitation of the Sea), conducting research on fisheries in the Bay of Biscay in La Rochelle, which later became her home port.

In 1987, she built her first boat, Parole, a ten-meter steel sailboat. She embarked on her first major adventures, including offshore Atlantic cruising and her first solo ocean crossing, before competing in the Mini-Transat in 1987.
During the 1996 Vendée Globe, her boat’s rudder was damaged, and she faced extremely harsh conditions, including storms that repeatedly knocked her vessel down.

In the years that followed, she developed several ambitious sailing projects, pushing her limits and achieving remarkable feats, both solo and as part of a team.

3:10 p.m. - Marie-Amélie Le Fur, Three-time Paralympic Champion in para-athletics, President of the French Paralympic and Sports Committee (2018), President of the French Sport Agency (2024)

Marie-Amélie Le Fur began athletics at the age of six and achieved the fourth-best French performance in the 1000m in 2003.
A junior firefighter from ages 12 to 18, she dreamed of becoming a professional firefighter. In 2004, however, she was involved in a serious scooter accident. Three days later, doctors had no choice but to amputate her left leg below the knee.

Undeterred, Marie-Amélie moved forward with determination, quickly beginning sports rehabilitation and entering her first para-sport competitions in 2005. Titles and records soon followed: three silver medals at the 2006 World Championships in Assen, and two silver medals at the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games.

At the Rio Paralympic Games, she made France proud by becoming a double Paralympic Champion in the long jump and the 400 meters.
An exceptional athlete—through her achievements, professional career, and commitment to the para-sport community—Marie-Amélie Le Fur stands as a powerful example of resilience and success.
