Published on February 27, 2025 Updated on March 18, 2025

A group of students, PhD students and Executive Education participants along with four iaelyon faculty had the opportunity to dig into the Sao Paulo’s entrepreneurial ecosystem and dynamics from February 10 to 14 2025 trough a learning expedition coordinated by the Graduate School International Entrepreneurship and innovation for Society @iaelyon.

The learning expedition was organized by the University of Sao Paulo (USP) and aimed for iaelyon students to discover the local entrepreneurial practices and strengthen the partnership between the French and Brazilian universities.

Courses and networking with the USP students

The students of the M.Sc. in Entrepreneurship and Development of New Companies, M.Sc. in Sustainable Management for International Business and the participants of the Executive International MBA had the opportunity to sit along with their Brazilian homologues in the courses.

Besides the courses lectured by the USP professors concerning themes such as “entrepreneurial ecosystems management” and “radical innovation in Brazil” students participated in courses lectured by iaelyon professors and PhDs on:

Discovering Brazil’s entrepreneurial ecosystem

The immersive expedition allowed students to deeply discover the Brazilian’s supportive and innovative structures for entrepreneurs. After the USP conference concerning the entrepreneurial ecosystems and the financing for innovation, the group of participants had the opportunity to explore emblematic locations, such as:

  • NIDUS, USP’s incubator
  • CIETEC and IPEN research centers (Nuclear energy research centers), C4AI (Brazil’s Artificial Intelligence), BRIDGE (a project concerning innovative managerial practices) and the Future Factory (a FABLAB with 3D printers and connected objects open to the University’s members).
  • Specialized centers such as RCGI (Research Center for gas and greenhouse effect innovation) and CITI (the interdisciplinary center for interactive technology).

Networking and professional opportunities

During the learning expedition, participants had the opportunity to meet and mingle with local entrepreneurs. One of the startups they met at NIDUS, presented one of their innovative projects, as they have reached a high development level, allowing the iaelyon students to exchange ideas and projects.

An informal networking moment has also been organized in order to give iaelyon participants the opportunity to discuss with the USP students and the incubators’ entrepreneurs.

Academic collaboration: a bright future

In addition to the program, the iaelyon faculty has the opportunity to work with their Brazilian homologues in order to develop new projects together in the fields of research, education, entrepreneurship, and innovation, especially with the social and entrepreneurial USP research center and the NIDUS.

It was a great opportunity for me to discover Sao Paulo’s entrepreneur ecosystem and the young entrepreneurs who contribute to it.”

I particularly appreciated the informal networking moments, especially during the networking and the brainstorming session.”

The lectures were all very enriching, we were able to deepen our knowledge on several subjects.”
