Entrepreneurship: Learning expedition in Tampa (United States) for the students of the M.Sc. Entrepreneurship and Development of New Companies
The first-year students of M.Sc. Entrepreneurship and Development of New Companies along with a few CREATE @iaelyon faculty participated in a learning expedition from February 6 to 11 in Florida, United States in order to immerse themselves in the American entrepreneurial ecosystem. Feedback about this notable learning expedition:
At Lowth Entrepreneurship Center, we do not just create companies, we create entrepreneurs
LEC was build to bring together students in entrepreneurship, faculty and senior entrepreneurs in order to identify new entrepreneurial opportunities and create new companies.
More than a common learning expedition: a truthful immersion in the entrepreneurial American start-up culture
During this intensive week, rich in knowledge and exchanges, students participated in several events:-
Conferences lectured by local entrepreneurs and investors
- A discussion panel on “Perspectives on Global Entrepreneurship”, organized in the framework of Innovate UTampa
- LEC courses to learn how entrepreneurship is taught in the “country of business”
- A visit of the Embarc Collective incubator which is unique for its support system boosting companies’ innovation and development
- A pitch contest with ideas being challenged in the American way
… and a yoga session for entrepreneurs in order to learn how to manage work pressure!
"The students also had the privilege of exchanging with Rebecca White, LEC’s director who has been awarded several times and is actively implicated in entrepreneurship education. An inspiring woman who is strongly part of the entrepreneurial ecosystem. “
Romain LESAGE, Director of the second-year program of the M.Sc. Entrepreneurship and Development of New Companies and researcher at the CREATE, Magellan Research Center @iaelyon
For Adèle Guillon, student in M.Sc. Entrepreneurship and Development of New Companies, this learning expedition was particularly enriching: "Secret of success: it’s not luck, it’s process. And be careful of the importance of the laws. Ignorance is no excuse" is one of the many advises given to the future entrepreneurs.
Here, they dare. They do not ask wonder whether they can raise money, they just do it. They do hesitate on taking risk, they dive in and then they adjust their business when needed.”
Colin Balin, student in M.Sc. Entrepreneurship and Development of New Companies
This week was an opportunity to reflect on the limits we set and the way to overcome them.
This learning expedition was organized in the framework of the Graduate School International Entrepreneurship and Innovation for Society @iaelyon.
